The Oolong I Love

In this post I  would like to share with you the 3 Oolong varieties that I drink most often (as I mentioned in my previous post Oolong As You Love Me,) and a brief description of each of them.

I purchase each of these at ChaChaTea so I can trust the quality and freshness. Spring and Autumn are the best time to buy when the 1st Flush comes in.

Milk Oolong, is my absolute favorite! Milk Oolong, contrary to the name, has absolutely nothing to do with milk. It can be confused with Milky Bubble Tea, which is completely a different cup of tea. Milk Oolong originates from Taiwan, and its light fresh leaves are what gives it the milky, sweet, wonderful taste. This is a must try if you want to enter the world of Oolong.

High Mountain Oolong is compared to a fine wine. It is grown in the central mountains of Taiwan at altitudes of 1000 meters and greater. This is a premium Oolong with maximum health benefits, and has been proven to stop tumor growth, stop infections, and generally alkalinize the organs and body, along with the other many benefits of Oolong Tea’s. This tea has a nice floral fresh taste, and can range anywhere from $30 to $100 or greater per 100g. If you find it for less it is probably not the real thing.

Ti Kuan Yin, or Iron Goddess Oolong,  originates from the Fujian Province in the Republic of China. This is probably one of the most popular Oolongs. There are many varieties that run from about $10 per 100g to $3000 per 1g. I purchase the more affordable and organic variety – it can have a darker appearance. I find the more affordable variety to have a slightly bitter after-taste, so this is the tea I use most often if I want to mix with other tea, as mentioned in my last Quick Tip.

I will give each of these variety’s their own post in the future with more detail. If you try these, please let me know what you think of them.
