Seize the day!

Well, it is February 1st, 1 month since we rang in the new year, around the same time that New Year’s resolutions start to fizzle as well. I have never been a fan of New Year’s resolutions, and prefer other methods of making and achieving goals, as you can tell from my post, No resolution new year. This post is another no resolution method I have used in achieving some of my biggest goals to date.

Right around my 30th birthday, a good friend of mine, Kaoru, told me how when she turned 30 she started a “before 40 bucket list.” She said you write  down 40 things big and small that you would like to achieve  before your 40th birthday.

Now I thought this was a fabulous idea! So I went and found a special note book and began writing down 40 things both big and small that I wanted to achieve in the next decade.

I discovered pretty quickly that writing goals down puts them into action both in your subconscious, and into our universe. If you told me when I first wrote down the 40 things I dreamed of most, such as number 1: to get married,  number 10: to skate on the Rideau Canal, number 3: to own the house we are currently and happily living in, or number 16: travelling to Hong Kong (which just recently happened this November), and so many more would come true, I wouldn’t have believed you! But there they are though, crossed off my “before 40 bucket list!” I’m very excited to see what the next few years will hold for me before I turn 40 and what I will cross off my list!

A few things to note about your list, which you are going to start thinking about after you finish reading this fabulous post:

1. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a before 40 bucket list! It can be 20 things before 20, 30 things before 30, 50 things before 50 and so on. A decade is a great and realistic amount of time to make your current dreams come true.

2. Everyone is constantly changing and evolving, so if something you first write down doesn’t appeal to you in the same way a few years down the road, don’t feel bad; simply white it out and add something new!
